Anne Johnson, a longtime force in local cultural life and a loyal supporter of the Brno Expat Centre, wins this year’s edition of the Brno Short Story Writing Contest. Congratulations, dear Anne!
The BSSWC is an annual contest, organised by the Brno Writers Group for the fifth year in a row. This year, the entries had to explore the theme “Where I am Local” in some significant way. The jury, consisting of a cross-section of local cultural icons and writing enthusiasts, picked these winners out of the 32 submitted stories: Anne Johnson’s “The Language of Clouds” for the first place, Charlie Trotter’s “The Undertaker” as second; and Ari Dvorak’s “The Dog Heaven” as third prize winner. All three winners will receive prize money. You can read their stories and also four chosen runner-ups on the website of the Brno Writers Group. We’re looking forward to next year’s theme and what the creative expats and locals will explore in their entries!
