Welcome to the June edition of Kam v Brně / Where in Brno. This guide to Brno in June is chock full of exciting cultural, gastronomical and free-time tips, we hardly know where to start. A criticism sometimes levelled at Kam v Brně/Where in Brno is that we make it seem as if Brno is a more exciting place than it really is.

Well, with the constant cancellations and our “best case scenario” writing of the past year, maybe there is some truth to that. However, with the current easing of restrictions and the vaccine roll-out, maybe this time our optimism and enthusiasm is well-placed.

It is very exciting to see the return of Ghettofest. Ghettofest in now in it’s 10th year and in order to counter-act some of the risks involved in putting on a festival at this time, they’ve come up with a novel approach. The gamification of Ghettofest. Register your teams online and be prepared for an urban game that takes you into all the nooks and crannies of Brno’s Bronx. (5th).

Gustav Brom, the legendary jazzman and band leader, was a Brno native who conquered the world. The saxophonist and violinist was a mainstay of the Brno jazz scene for over 50 years and also toured internationally over 250 times. This year is the 100th anniversary of his birth. To celebrate this, there are several events planned, as well as a tour of the key Brno locations connected with Brom.

Pop Messe is Brno’s entrance on to the European urban musical festival scene, inspired by such festivals as Sonar in Barcelona and All Points East in London, Pop Messe will feature world class festival acts and more, although the festival is scheduled for July, it will be useful to make sure you get your tickets early.

The most exciting news of the summer is that Brno’s own Pop Messe festival will go ahead, albeit with a limited 4000 tickets. Pop Messe is Brno’s entrance on to the European urban musical festival scene, inspired by such festivals as Sonar in Barcelona and All Points East in London, Pop Messe will feature world class festival acts (such as Modeselektor, Tommy Cash and Acid Arab) and more, although the festival is scheduled for July, it will be useful to make sure you get your tickets early.

Another must for this month is the summer cinema at the Löw-Beer Villa. Check out the beautiful gardens, the amazing summer cafe and enjoy a movie at the Villa. As always, the best way to ensure you don’t miss out on all the fun is to subscribe. A subscription to KAM v Brně, includes a month copy of the magazine delivered to your door, as well as various vouchers and invitations to special events.
