The word on the lips of most Brnáci this spring is “rozvolnění”, unwinding, freeing up, relaxing. And that is very much what we all need right now. And Kam v Brně / Where in Brno is here to help you figure out how best to do that. Lots of events and activities are planned for May in Brno, including music festivals, cycling, wine celebrations and so much more.

The music event of the month is Mersey Gathering (pronounced as in “mercy” if you want to show your local cred!) The best young bands in the country. Kill the Dandies, Science Killer, Ghost of You, Bare Escape and Brno legends, Insania. We thoroughly recommend this. In the park by Anthropos (29th).

Brno Zoo reopened in mid-April, the interior spaces are still closed, but there are still more than 60 hectares of space to learn about the zoo’s work in animal and environmental conservation. A great day out with the kids.

I also fully recommend the One World Cinema Festival in May. Unfortunately, it is still online. But even so, that actually makes it easier to catch more of this groundbreaking human rights documentary festival.

Also, if you need to up your environmental game, May is Go to Work on a Bike Month. So, if you want to show your commitment to this you can register your team at www.dopracenakole.cz, there’s an app for it as well and a T-shirt if you register. But of course, if you don’t want to sign up, no one is stopping you from taking part anyway.

Finally, if you need to properly unwind, There are a series of wine events Víno z blízka, (Local wines) at the Otevřená Zahrada (Open Garden) on Udolní. The first of which is focussing on local organic wines (13th). Tickets are available at www.otevrenazahrada.cz/ – The price includes all the wine tasting you’ll need to properly unwind.
