Are you interested in performing? Don’t hesitate! Send in a video by 11:59 pm on the WEDNESDAY before the show (in February, that’s Feb 24). Photo: Comedius
Support your local restaurants and pubs: order their takeaway, frequent their “okýnka” (windows). Reach out to friends online and chat. Get out of the house everyday. Join in with Comedius and see the talent that Brno has to offer. Anne Johnson tells us more:
Comedius has been hosting an open mic night on the final Friday of (almost) every month since 2018. This is open to any kind of performance: standup comedy, singing, storytelling, poetry, acting, reading, magic, juggling… For the pandemic, these events are online (streamed on the Facebook page CzechComedius).
Live performance is magical, the “you had to be there” of art. Going online feels like going against that magic… but it is worth doing and worth seeing. Why? First, many of us are missing our daily interactions, and online events that we watch “together” help create that sense of connection and shared reality. Second, if all we have to “do” is work, we have nothing to talk about when we do meet. So learning a song, practicing a sketch, mastering your burlesque – these are the things that can give us a different focus. Think of it as a distraction for now that may develop into a talent later!

Maximum 10 minutes (pro tip: less can be better). English is encouraged but not required. Submissions need not be “childproof” but please no racist sexist homophobic or otherwise abjectly unfunny submissions.
Are you interested in watching? The event streams at 7 pm on Friday on the Facebook page and we encourage people to “show up” on time. If you tune in live you can interact in real time with other viewers and with the performers, many of whom live on a strict diet of fingernails and positive feedback. You can’t clap, but you can click the emoji reactions like it’s a video game!
