There is a very interesting section in this month’s Kam about Yoga – and even if you don’t speak Czech, the links are all there and there are many English-speaking Yoga classes available in Brno. Photo: Pocket media/Ivo Dvořák

Welcome to Kam v Brně/Where in Brno! Happy New Year! We sincerely hope that 2021 is a lot better than 2020, even if you thought 2020 was pretty awesome, we still hope that your 2021 is even better.

In line with the kind of optimism that you will need going into 2021, we’re going to pretend that everything is just hunky dorey. That you’ll be heading out to see wonderful concerts at your favourite venues, dining in your favourite restaurants and meeting up with friends for your favourite vigorous sporting pursuits.

There are a lot of excellent gigs pencilled in for January, such as Metronome Blues at Kabinet Muz on the 14th of January. For classical lovers there are regular concerts at the Baroque Chateau, Belcredi, in Lišeň. From the 18th of January and going on until April there will be concerts in conjunction with the Janáček Academy of Music and the Brno Conservatory – www.kclisen.cz.

Sports-wise there are a lot of things going on that might interest those who’ve made resolutions. There is a very interesting section in this month’s Kam about Yoga – and even if you don’t speak Czech, the links are all there and there are many English-speaking Yoga classes available in Brno.

Surely, though, the best way of getting some exercise these days is to head out into the countryside. A couple of ideas for you. If you take the bus out to the top of Lesna (the 46 for example), there are the magical old woods of Zaječí hora, with twisting turning paths that plunge into tight dark valleys and then open out into verdant meadows and ponds flourishing with life. Or why not head slightly further afield, to Maršovský vodopády (waterfalls), a series of cascading waterfalls near Veverská Bítýška. If you have access to a car, then a trip to the templar ruins at Templštejn is a lovely short walk with a big pay off.

Finally, if you enjoy Kam v Brně / Where in Brno, consider a subscription and get the magazine delivered to your door every month. The perfect cure for FOMO in 2021.
